Protest over English Mr Jones - 31 January 1914

Objection was taken by the managers of Abernant School at a recent meeting of the Carmarthenshire Education Authority to the appointment of any of the four candidates whose names were submitted as headmaster.

One was from Buckinghamshire, one from County Mayo, one from the Scottish Highlands, and one from Swansea. The managers said the applicants were all Englishmen, and they wanted a Welshman.

The Rev. R H Jones said one of the applicants was named Jones, and he did not believe that anybody with such a name could possibly be an Englishman. Despite the protest it was decided to ask the managers to appoint one of the four submitted.
